The Importance of Physical Education

There might be some who think that Physical Education classes are not as important as other subjects because they are just there to teach you how to play a sport or learn a social dance. What most do not know is that P.E. offers many lessons that one can apply to everyday situations in life. Gym teachers have vital roles to play in their student’s lives as their teachings are meant to improve the overall health of school children.

Each P.E. class has goals for both the instructor and the pupils. The major objective of Physical Education is to boost the fitness of the students’ bodies so that they can cope with the demands of schooling, and in order to have the proper influence to live healthy lives as they grow up. That is why you are tested for your speed, strength, endurance, and so on. All those lessons on how to hit a baseball or swim the freestyle are meant to encourage you to enjoy physical activities and exercise so that you can continue to take good care of your health.

Another aim in gym class is to provide a more informal setting for socialisation among students and their peers. Most P.E. lessons are held in sports fields or gymnasiums, places where the pupils can be freer to move around and bring out their energies. These settings and the activities they learn are also meant to provide venues for practising cooperation, sportsmanship, self-confidence, and other positive traits.

Lastly, Physical Education is geared towards creating a better appreciation for your culture and environment as you learn about the different sports and dances that are part of your local traditions.
